Membership Meeting Held on October 10, 2015

The Kossuth Foundation held its second membership meeting on October 10, 2015, at the Hungarian Reformed Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey.  The meeting was convened primarily to elect members of the Board of Directors as required by the foundation’s bylaws, and secondarily to update members on the status of the Kossuth House transfer in Washington, DC.  In addition, the refugee crisis affecting Hungary was discussed.  Several members of the Board and membership were present in New Brunswick, others participated by phone but the majority of those participating did so by ballots and proxies sent in prior to the meeting.

After Mr. John Morey delivered the Treasurer’s Report, the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Gabor Rozsa, reported on the status of the Kossuth House transfer, which now is in litigation.  In addition, he led a discussion of the plight of the refugees who are in Hungary.  It was suggested that a committee be established to study the issue and to take appropriate action.  [Editor’s Note:  Since the membership meeting, the board did form such a committee to raise funds to be used on behalf of the refugees and migrants in Hungary.]

The results of the board elections were that all 11 candidates were elected to the 11 board positions.  Then, Mr. Rozsa announced that, because two former board officers decided to not run for re-election, currently those two foundation offices are vacant.  He stated that officer elections will be held to fill those vacancies at the next board meeting, which is to be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in Ligonier, PA, at the Bethlen Home.
