First Hungarian Festival in the DC area

Thanks to all who attended our first Hungarian Festival in the DC area! It turned out to be a fantastic event with almost 500 attendees. Hungarian folk music and dance show throughout the day was provided by the Csűrdöngölő & Mákvirág Dance Ensembles, Fészer Band, Tisza Ensemble, Szikra Band, Magnolia Band, Rózsafa Ensemble, and the Regős group of the Hungarian Scouts, as well as special guest violinist Laci Orbán. Children’s program was run by Ildikó Rozs, and a traditional Hungarian noodle “csigatészta” making workshop was also offered to children and adults. Participants could sample traditional Hungarian cuisine, including sausage, gulyás soup, stuffed cabbage, lángos, chimney cake (kürtöskalács), accompanied by Hungarian pálinka and wine. The street market featured Hungarian delicacies (sausage, salami, ham, baked goods) and apparel.
Those interested could also visit a small exhibit on the legacy of Lajos Kossuth and his 1851-52 visit to the United States. Special thanks to the volunteers, the performers, the vendors, the Embassy/Government of Hungary, and everyone else who helped us make this event a great success!
